Biography

Born in Zimbabwe, Alpheaus Chiwaze aka "Ras Ali" began his musical studies on marimba at the age of 12, mainly through the influence of his father, who was an accordion player. He continued to play the marimba through high school in the high school musical band before picking up the electric bass at age 16. Ras Ali subsequently enrolled for further studies at City & Guilds, where he did Introduction to music theory, introduction to bass and fundamentals of music business. He also sort out more lessons and exposure from some of the renowned bassists in Zimbabwe. He then later moved to Botswana Gaborone where he started his musical career as a full time bassist playing for some of the renowned artists like Thabang Garogwe jazz artist, Channty Natural a reggae artist, Caroline Sithole an Afrocentric jazz artist, just to mention a few and recording studio sessions under various record labels (SIMZ RECORDS, COLMAS MUSICPRO, SOUND HUB and TSWANSHALL STUDIOS.) He is currently resident bassist at Lion Paw Band where he is pursuing his love of reggae music.
